SBS Gives Back

Multiple Sclerosis, Pediatric Cancer, Crohn’s and Colitis, and serving the homeless and near homeless families and individuals are just some of the causes and volunteer work that SBS Payroll, Inc. employees fundraise and volunteer for throughout the year.

Account Executives Jeanette Aguirre and Elmer Duran recently participated in the MS Walk 2012 along their team the MS Fighters on Sunday, April 15th at the Pasadena Rose Bowl and helped raise $1,525.00 towards The National Multiple Sclerosis Society! The cause is near to Jeanette’s heart as her Uncle was diagnosed with MS, which is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system. The event was a huge success as The National Multiple Sclerosis Society raised $893,143.33 with the generosity and fundraising efforts of many supporters!

Director of Payroll Operations Leigh Hansen recently participated in the following events:

  • Cinco De Mayo Half Marathon on Sunday, May 6th at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Irvine, which benefited the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation. Leigh was one of over 5,200 participants. The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation raised $690,000 from its very generous supporters and volunteers at the event, which goes to cutting edge research toward a cure for children with malignant disease.
  • Laguna Hills Memorial Day Half Marathon on Monday, May 28, 2012, which benefited the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, of the 1st Marine Division. This infantry battalion, nicknamed “DARKHORSE” is based out of Camp Pendleton. The City of Laguna Hills has adopted this Battalion and donated $3 per race participant to the 3/5 Support Committee. This marathon was especially important to Leigh as her Step-Brother and Uncle were both Marines.

Sales Manager Matthew Whiteley actively volunteers with The Habitat for Humanity and also volunteers along with his wife and young daughters at the St. Francis Center in Los Angeles to serve homeless and near homeless families and individuals once a month.

Sales and Marketing Assistant Jessica Crary will be participating in the Take Steps for Crohn’s and Colitis walk benefiting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the UC Irvine Campus. This cause is close to Jessica’s heart as her Step-Mother was diagnosed with Crohn’s, which is a painful and debilitating disease. This will be Jessica’s third year participating in the walk with Team Darcy.

Other upcoming events that SBS Payroll, Inc. employees will be participating in include:

  • The Irvine Lake Mud Run on June 23, 2012, which benefits Blind Start of America for Independence in Sight. Director Leigh Hansen, Client Services Manager Ian Harris, Account Executives Jeanette Aguirre, James Braum, and Elmer Duran (Team Captain) will be getting muddy for this cause.

“Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to serve a cause, practice one’s ideals, work with people, solve problems, see benefits, and know one had a hand in them.” ~ Harriet Naylor, Pioneer in the development of Volunteer Program Management.
