California businesses face a long list of new workplace regulations in 2019, including eight new requirements targeting sexual harassment and gender inequality – an ambitious attempt at changing a workplace culture at the center of the ongoing #MeToo upheaval.
There are also changes to wage and hour liability, family leave, hiring procedures and a host of other workplace practices that have drawn less attention but have as much potential to become compliance hurdles for businesses on the wrong side of new requirements.
While the long-term effects of these regulations on the state’s businesses remain to be seen, human resources professionals have to make them work right from the start. Any change to workplace laws is serious business in the HR department. Being out of compliance can mean fines, legal problems and worse. Being in compliance, on the other hand, is smart business.
So it’s a good idea to begin 2019 by getting to know California’s newest regulations. That’s why SBS Payroll is attending three of the 2019 Legal Updates across Southern California this month sponsored by Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA). You can join us at these events:
- Anaheim on Thursday, Jan. 10
- Riverside on Wednesday, Jan. 16
- Burbank on Tuesday, Jan. 22
HR Success in 2019: What You Need to Know
PIHRA’s seminars will feature presentations on California law from 14 employment and labor law attorneys, covering subjects ranging from sexual harassment to FLSA compliance. In addition to an overview of the new laws, attendees will take away tips and tools for accessing additional resources to manage the challenges posed by the new requirements.
Plus, like any seminar, there will be opportunities to network and connect with other HR professionals.
